Multiple Seat Strollers

Double stroller, sibling stroller, triple stroller, sit and stand stroller

Multiple seat strollers are similar to the standard stroller, but designed to accommdate more than one child; double, triple and so on.

The frames are built with the same aluminum and plastic material and offer the same features as the standard stroller: the 5-point harness, dual rear brakes, wheel suspension, easy fold mechanism and multiple seat positions. Because of the various designs by different manufacturers, it is important to look over the spects to know what features come with the stroller.

The Double Stroller

The twin stroller or double stroller is obviously made for two children; twins or siblings close in age. You can find this type of stroller in two styles; side-by-side or tandem.

The side-by-side is two seats next to each other on a frame wider than the standard stroller. This design is easy to maneuver, but may be difficult getting around tight quarters and through narrow doorways. Also, if there is a large weight difference between the children seated in the stroller, it may cause difficulty in steering the stroller.

The Combi Twin Savvy LX is an example of a side by side twin baby stroller:

The tandem style stroller has two seats, one in the back of the other. Some styles feature "stadium style" seating with the back seat set a little higher than the front seat so both children have a clear visual of their surroundings. While getting through doorways and tight areas is manageable, maneuvering this type of stroller up curbs may be somewhat difficult.

It is highly recommended to "test drive" the two styles offered in the double stroller and decide which style works best for you. Most of the double strollers will convert to accommodate a compatible infant car seat for ease in transporting newborns and infants.

The Triple Stroller

The triple stroller is made to carry three children, typically triplets, twins and a sibling close in age or even three siblings very close in age. It is the same width as a standard stroller and most offer the "stadium style" seating, so again, each child has a visual of the surroundings. The newer models can easily convert all three seats to fit an infant carrier/car seat, just be sure the infant carrier is compatible with the stroller.

The Sit and Stand Stroller

The sit and stand stroller is ideal for a family with a baby and an older sibling in the age range of 2 to 6 years old.

The frame is similar to the standard stroller with the standard seat for the baby, and various models are even compatible to fit an infant car seat. In addition, behind the stroller seat is a "jump seat" or bench with a standing platform giving the older sibling the option to sit or stand.

This particular type of stroller is the same width as the traditional baby stroller, but a bit longer in length and should come equipped with all the same safety features as the classic stroller.

Two popular manufacturers of this handy stroller are Joovy and Baby Trend.
